چکیده

Vortex dynamics in superfluids is investigated in the framework of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. The natural motion of the vortex is of cyclotron type, whose frequency is found to be on the order of phonon velocity divided by the coherence length, and may be heavily damped due to phonon radiation. Trapping foreign particles into the vortex core can reduce the cyclotron frequency and make the cyclotron motion underdamped. The density fluctuations can follow the vortex motion adiabatically within the phonon wave length at the cyclotron frequency, which results in a further downward renormalization of the cyclotron frequency. We have also discussed applications on the dynamics of vortices in superconducting films. PACS numbers: 64.40.Mj, 67.40.Db, 67.40.Rp, 67.40.Vs, 74.60.Ge

Detecting the quantum zero-point motion of vortices in the cuprate superconductors

We explore the experimental implications of a recent theory of the quantum dynamics of vortices in two-dimensional superfluids proximate to Mott insulators. The theory predicts modulations in the local density of states in the regions over which the vortices execute their quantum zero point motion. We use the spatial extent of such modulations in scanning tunnelling microscopy measurements (Hof...

Dynamics of vortices and interfaces in superfluid 3

Rapid new developments have occurred in superfluid hydrodynamics since the discovery of a host of unusual phenomena which arise from the diverse structure and dynamics of quantized vortices in He superfluids. These have been studied in rotating flow with NMR measurements which at best provide an accurate mapping of the different types of topological defects in the superfluid order parameter fie...

Non - Adiabatic Distortion In The Current Distribution Around A Moving Vortex

We study the phase distribution around a vortex in uniform motion. We consider both the cases of neutral and charged superfluids. The motion of the vortex causes the density of the system to fluctuate. This in turn produces a compensating current, thus ensuring current conservation locally. We explicitly calculate this current.

Adiabatic Effective Action for Vortices in Neutral and Charged Superfluids

Adiabatic effective action for vortices in neutral and charged superfluids at zero temperature are calculated using the topological Landau-Ginzburg theory recently proposed by Hatsuda, Yahikozawa, Ao and Thouless, and vortex dynamics are examined. The Berry phase term arising in the effective action naturally yields the Magnus force in both neutral and charged superfluids. It is shown that in n...
